Honours Degree.

It's my final year in Digital Interaction Design at Dundee University, Scotland. What have I achieved so far?

Written ~5500 words of my dissertation. (How has the advancement of technology changed the way we experience, create and value music in the 21st century?)

Produced 3 outlines for possible briefs as to my final project. (Phase Zero)

- MusicMood: Networked Emotion
By using colours to visualise different moods, the user’s latest music trends could be assessed via the “mood” tag to help paint a picture of how the user may be feeling. This colour could then be passed to a form of social media to add a new but subtle way for the user to promote and engage themselves online."

- MusicMess: Personal Chaos
Those who prefer to be “messy” in their organisational lives, are being forced to organise their digital music collection, or risk losing their music to masses of “untitled” text in their media players. I could develop a type of screen based interface (likely touch screen), that uses visual representation to allow the user to manipulate their digital albums in a 2d space, organising (or not organising them) them as they please.

- MusicMerge: Physical & Digital
This one I have decided to drop, as it is thinly developed, uninteresting, done before, and just generally below par in terms of projects I'd like to do.

I have have to make a commitment to one of the above ideas. What I've decided on so far is that it will not be the third one. So I am now going to spend some time dissecting the ideas until I have decided.

MusicMood: Networked Emotion:
Gives a sense of potential due to the inclusion of the "mood" tag which I was surprised to be included in mp3 files.
Potentially challenging, yet not so such an extent that I will be struggling to meet deadlines or quality expectations.
Covers the topic of how music and mood are connected, Which is a topic I find interesting and may lead me into researching the neurobiology of music.
My initial research has lead me to claims that social networking is less of a way to connect with other peoples as it is a medium for the promotion of one's personality and "a celebration of individuality". this leads me to believe that a way to express your own current mood, as well as your strong relationship with your personal music would be a strong application of social networking.
While the outcome may only be a small section of colour, it has potential to be both non-evasive to those who don't care, yet present enough to promote a conversation or social interaction.
May include the recently played playlist to show what songs are making the user feel a certain way.

MusicMess: Personal Chaos
Slightly abstract; A twist on the improvement of organising your music.
Highlights an anarchical system as opposed to a hierarchical system for the less organised
Still offers some auto-organisational properties to compensate for the lack of real physical interaction.
Promotes creativity in ones digital library. Adding a sense of personality your collection.
Will force me to develop my app development skill

The above, plus a couple of conversations later, I have decided on MusicMood! Now to dive right in..
